Really and Truly, the Bread of Life

"Truly, truly, I say to you..."

One of the saddest Bible verses is John 6.66, that many disciples turned back and refused to follow Jesus anymore. But what did Jesus say that would cause such consternation? Jesus taught that he was the bread of life, but what does that actually mean?
